Learn from the masters. Take an author you know and love, and aim to emulate. Analyse the way they write by de-constructing the plot and characters of a novel. I’ve done this with AS Byatt’s Possession and John Grisham’s The Firm. Patterns and techniques become evident. Apply what you learn to your own writing.

Oo that sounds like fun! 🙂 I have seen pictures of copies of books which got made into films, like The Shining; I liked the way that they had all these notes and highlighted parts, it’s really fascinating. I will have to try what you say. 🙂
It’s really worth the time, Miranda, just choose the novel carefully. 🙂 SD
I shall give it some thought 🙂
