The Twitter Report

Aah, Twitter… how shall I count the ways?

Five months tweeting…
877 tweets tweeted, more than some [I mean JK] but a lot less than others.
629 tweeters followed, mostly authors, journalists, book world people, Andy Murray and Yorkshire Tea. No free teabags yet…

For future reference, in case we meet, I’m a Tiffie [tea in first] not a Miffie [milk in first]. I was brought up as a Miffie but have been served too many cups of weak tea in my life to put up with it any longer. So I did a U-turn and have never looked back.

343 tweeters following me. Thank you if you are one of them [you will know that my tweets are different from my blog].

Stay with me, this is where it gets interesting. My followers include…
Friends and family [of course]…
Writers [I know, I don’t know, I admire, I long to have written the books they have written]…
Book lovers [they make my world go around]…
Poets [a beautiful way to give my brain a rest from writing]…
Lots of people who want to promote my book, for a small fee [uhm, I didn’t know there were so many out there]…
A furniture store [now it starts getting weird]…
A vodka [I’m tee-total]…
A pretty blonde girl whose photograph is dominated by her breasts… [need I say more?] A travel agency which does city tours… [I can organise my own travel, thanks] A plumber in Battersea, London [not an individual plumber, a company]…
Someone in Costa Rica who posts marvellous pictures of nature and birds [no, not that sort of bird, real ones like this toucan]…

Not, unfortunately, Andy Murray.

My 5 tweeting rules:-
1 Be myself;
2 Approach the tweet as if writing a headline, be succinct, correct grammar at all times [sorry, it’s the journalist in me];
3 Always include a photo;
4 Better not to tweet than re-tweet rubbish;
5 Don’t just tweet about books.

What are your 5 tweeting rules?

Comments

  1. I gain followers without really ever tweeting myself…strange that! Yes, if you don’t follow back they tend to drop you after a while…

  2. All I can say is you have done much better than me. I think I’ve been tweeting for about two years, ( not really sure ) and have lurched slowly to 122 followers. I keep seeing the number drop and then rise again, so I must be losing followers at the same speed as I gain them

    • I know some people ‘unfollow’ anyone who doesn’t automatically follow them back, but I don’t want to follow a vodka or a plumber! SD

  3. My dog started tweeting before I did. I think the idea of approaching it as a headline is a good one, but I’ve never really got into it. It’s a bit like FB status updates. ‘I got up, had a shower, and went to Starbucks.’ (Presumably getting dressed first of course – otherwise it might actually be an interesting update). I should probably look at it again and see if it has improved. Doubt it.

    Weak black tea, so that’s easy. Not Yorkshire Tea though. Too strong. Assam, Darjeeling, breakfast, manzanilla con anís, o te verde.

    Any news on anticipated publication date? I’m still doing some editing work, but I don’t want to let you down. I’d scheduled a read for mid/late next month, so review end Aug/early Sept while it is fresh in my mind. Let me know when you’ve got an approx date.

      • Ok, that’s fine, just give me a jog. If I read now, it will go out of my mind. I’d like to leave till the right time. I’m limping on crutches, but not well 🙁 Still, better than hopping 🙂

    Hi Sandra

    Very interesting! Not a tweeter myself but it sounds like fun! ;-). Can’t log into the blog unfortunately but would comment if I could.
